Timeo Gate installation guide

01In the box

• Timeo Gate reader (black, 3.3-inch touchscreen), mounting bracket, two M4 screws, drilling template, plastic pry tool
• Reader wiring harness, 10 wires, labelled at the plug end
• Access-control power supply, 12 V 5 A, with PUSH input and NC/NO lock outputs. Mains input is two bare red leads.
• Maglock, 280 kg, with bracket. Its two screw terminals, marked + and −, are under the end cap of the magnet body.
• Exit button, white 86 mm panel marked EXIT, normally open, two screw terminals on the back (no wire attached)

Your reader is already registered to your business before it ships. The serial number is printed on the back and shown on the reader's screen once it is powered.

02What you still need on install day

Three things, all from a hardware shop. Nothing else.

1. 1
   One roll of 2-core 1.0 mm² flexible cable, for the magnet.Ask for "RVV 2×1.0". Runs from the power supply to the maglock. Buy the length of that run plus 2 m spare. About RM 2 to 3 per metre.
2. 2
   One roll of 2-core 0.5 mm² flexible cable, for the reader and the exit button.Ask for "RVV 2×0.5". Two runs: power supply to the exit button, and power supply to the reader if the reader's own harness does not reach. Buy both runs plus 2 m spare. About RM 1 to 2 per metre.

   One 3-pin mains plug with a lead, for the power supply.The power supply's mains input is two bare red leads. Join them to a plug lead (any 3-pin plug with 1 m of flex, about RM 10) or have the electrician run it to a fused spur. Without this the power supply cannot be switched on.

Plus one network cable, Cat5e or better, from the router or switch to the reader. The reader connects by cable, not Wi-Fi. About RM 20 to 40.

Do not buy

• A power supply, magnet, exit button or reader. All four are in the box.
• A separate 12 V adapter. The supplied power supply powers the reader and the magnet together.
• A wall box. Optional only for a flush mount; the reader's bracket also screws straight onto the wall.

03Where to mount it

The reader

• Outside the door, handle side, centre of the reader about 1.3 m from the floor.
• Out of direct sun and strong lamps. The scanner is a camera; glare on the glass stops it reading phone screens.
• Keep metal 10 cm away from the lower half of the glass. That is where the card antenna sits, and a steel frame right behind it shortens the tap range.
• Indoor or sheltered only. It is not rated for rain.

   Stick the drilling template on the wall, level.Drill the four M4 holes. If there is an 86 mm box in the wall, use its two screw holes instead. Drill a hole in the middle for the harness and the network cable.

   Screw the black bracket on.The arrow moulded into it points up. Mount it landscape (wide) unless we told you otherwise.

   Pass the harness and network cable through the bracket's centre openingand plug both into the back of the reader.

   Hook the reader onto the top clips and press the bottom until it snaps.To remove it later, slide the plastic pry tool into the top slot first, then the two at the bottom. Never a metal screwdriver; it marks the case and voids the warranty.

The exit button

Inside the door, handle side, about 1.2 m up, in an 86 mm box or on the surface. Two screw terminals on the back; the wiring is in section 4.

The maglock

• The magnet body goes on the door frame, the steel plate on the door, at the top corner on the opening side.
• Door opens inward: L bracket, magnet under the head of the frame.
• Door opens outward: Z bracket, which steps the plate out to meet the magnet.
• Fit the plate with its rubber washer and leave it a little loose. That play lets it seat flat against the magnet.
• Mount the magnet with the end cap that has the single screw facing the side your cable comes from. The wiring terminals are under that cap.

The power supply

Inside, out of reach, near the door: above a false ceiling or on the wall beside the frame. Two keyhole slots on the back take two screws. Keep it within cable reach of a socket; it takes a normal 3-pin plug.

04Wiring

For the electrician. Power off everything while connecting, and wait two seconds between switching the supply off and on again.

Harness wire colours

Printed on the tag tied to the harness. Listed here so nobody has to read a 4 mm label on a ladder.

The power supply's terminals

The supplied unit is a 12 V 5 A access-control supply. Mains (90 to 260 V AC) goes to the two red leads at the top; they need a plug fitted or a fused spur. The green screw block reads, left to right:

Inside the maglock

Undo the single screw on the end cap of the magnet body and slide the cap off. Inside is a small blue board with a green two-screw block marked + and −. Those two screws are the only connection you make to the magnet.

• + (left screw) takes the wire from the power supply's NC.
• − (right screw) takes the wire from the power supply's GND beside NC.
• The four thin wires (red, yellow, white, black) on the small white plug next to the block are the magnet's own coil connection. Leave that plug alone.
• There is no 12 V / 24 V jumper on this magnet. Feed it 12 V from the supplied power supply and nothing needs setting.

Connections

Cable runs: 2 × 1.0 mm² is good for power up to 100 m; 2 × 0.5 mm² for the relay and exit button up to 100 m.

If the installer was handed the maker's drawings

05Network

Plug the network cable in and the reader gets an address from your router by itself. Nothing to configure. It needs ordinary internet access to reach Timeo, the same as a laptop on your Wi-Fi.

• Two small lights on the network port show link (steady) and traffic (blinking).
• The footer of the screen shows the address it received, for example 192.168.0.42. The middle line reads Scan your pass or tap your card once it has spoken to Timeo.
• If your router has a guest network or client isolation, put the reader on the main network.

06Connect it to your Timeo account

Done once, from any computer or phone signed in to your Timeo console.

   Power the reader and plug in the network cable.Wait until the screen shows the clock and the footer shows a network address.

   Open Timeo, go to Settings, then Hardware.Find the section named Timeo Gate readers.
3. 3
   Add the reader.Give it a name such as "Front door", type the serial exactly as shown in the reader's footer, and choose Add reader. If it was registered for you before shipping, it is already listed.
4. 4
   Show the setup code.A square code appears on your screen. Hold it 10 to 15 cm from the reader's glass, phone brightness up.
5. 5
   Wait for the confirmation.The screen says "Set up for your business, restarting". Within a minute the top of the screen shows your business name and the middle line reads Scan your pass or tap your card.

07Test the door

Power-on order: plug the power supply in, wait for the reader to show the clock, then:

   Press the exit button.The power supply clicks and the lock releases. This does not involve the reader at all, so it proves the lock wiring on its own.
2. 2
   Scan an active member's pass.Open the Timeo app, show the pass, hold it to the glass. The screen turns green with the member's name, you hear two short beeps, and the lock releases for three seconds.
3. 3
   Scan a lapsed member.Red screen, the member's name, and the reason, for example "No active package". One long beep. The door stays locked.
4. 4
   Pull the reader's power for ten seconds and plug it back in.It comes back by itself and shows your business name within a minute. No one needs to touch it.
5. 5
   Check the log.In Timeo, open Door logs. Every scan you just made is there with the time and the decision.

08Everyday use

Members show the pass from the Timeo app, or tap a card you registered on their profile. The pass in the app refreshes on its own and cannot be shared by screenshot.

Registering a card

1. 1
   Tap the new card on the reader.It says "Card not recognised". That is expected: the reader has just told Timeo the card's number.
2. 2
   Open the member in Timeo.Customers, then the member, then Reset NFC next to "NFC card". Works from a phone as well.
3. 3
   Pick the card.Under Tapped on the gate reader the card you just tapped is listed with the time. Choose Use this card, then Save card.
4. 4
   Tap again.The screen says Welcome with the member's name and the door releases.

Staff cards are registered the same way from Staff, then the person's profile. A card can belong to one person at a time; saving it on someone else moves it.

• A membership that runs out keeps working at the door for seven more days so people can renew at the counter. After that the reader turns them away and tells them why.
• Staff with a registered card enter regardless of membership.
• Every entry and every refusal is in Door logs, with the reason. Nothing is stored on the reader itself.
• Renewals and new sign-ups take effect at the door within seconds.

09What the screen is telling you

The reader speaks in short messages. Green means the door opened, red means it stayed shut, blue is about the reader itself.

Beeps: one short beep on every scan, two short beeps for open, one long beep for refused.

10If something is wrong

When the reader cannot reach Timeo, it does not guess. The door stays locked and staff let members in from the counter. Nothing is lost: once it is back online, scans resume and are logged as normal.

Security

Passes are encrypted and expire every 60 seconds. Access decisions are made by Timeo, not stored on the reader.
